Catchment Board Works
The chief engineer of the Manawatii Catchment Board (Mr. P. G. Evans) reported on July's activities at the meeting of the board on Tuesday. Items of interest to local farmers contained in the report were as foflows: — An inspection of the Mangaore Stream was made on Mr. P, Cole's property, Otara Road, of erosion which is * taking place, and a plan and estimate will be prepared for this under the Minor Rivers Protection Scheme. A survey of the lower Manawatu scheme has been carried out and calculations . on channel flow eapacities from' the mouth upstream are continuing. Information on scour in the river bed and the bar J during floods, and on extreme tide ranges, was obtained from Mr. Ramsay, a fisherman at Foxton Beach, who takes many soumlings, An account of the 1902 flood has been perused, but no information on scour or-tides was obtained. Reported water levels in that account will be compared with calculated values. Methods of flood information and warnings have been worked out and duties allocated to all staff to c'arry out the 24-hour warning service during flood periods.
