60 Per Cent of Methodists Favour Church Union
WELLINGTON, August l3. Approximately 60 per eent. of the Methodist votes on the proposed basiS for union with the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches of New Zealand were. cast in support of the plan. The actual iigures for the Dominion khotv that church members favoured the plan by 8501 votes to 5633 and church officials, by 1984 votes to'1268. The vote of the officials is that required by church law; and the vote of members was sought to provide the annual conference with an additional guide. Three-flfths of the membership voted. The union committee will not meet till next" Eebruary to consider its next step. The results of the voting in the other two denominations have not yet been announced. In the Wellington and • South Canterbury Methodist districts all the circuits recorded majorities in favour of the basis. In Hawke 's BayManawatu all but three eiicuits cast majorities against it. In eaeh df the remaining six distriets the greatei' number of circuits had majorities in favour. In all approximately 70 per cent. of the circiiits thrbughout Ihe Dominion recorded majorities in favbur of the basis. •• 1 1 j. i 1 «
