' AUCKLAND, Aug. 12. Three mines" are idle in the Huntly 'district today — McDonald, Glen Afton and-' Pukemiro. This means- a dai'iy loss in- output- of over 1100 tons of coal an.d that about 730 men— half the- miners in the 'Waikato coalfields— are unemployed-. There are no indications of an early resumption Of work. . Work ceased at the McDonald mine -yesterday after a dispute concerning the rate payment for the removal of bottom coal to the working place in the mine. The miners at Glen Afton have struck in sympathy with those at McDonald, which is under the same management. The men at Pukemiro, who yesterday voted with those. at Rotowaro, Alison and Renown mihes- to . refer the subject to the local disputes committee, today decided to return home after a meeting. The Rotowaro, Alisoh and Renown mines are working liormaliy today.
