Young Veteran Of Five Different Armies
WELLINGTON, August 11. ' A seasoned veteran of five armies at the age of 28, Sergeant Pedro de *Treen, who arrived at Wellington this morning with the .J Force draft that disembarked at Auckland yekterday from the Duntroon, is still looking for adventure. Sergeant de Treen, who rau away from home at the age of 14 and saw something of life in South America and South Africa before he departed from New Zealand in 1937 to take part in the Spanish civil war, hopes, with six other young men, to obtain- a sehooner in Australia, and spend some time in the Pacifie, but, as the vessel is under char-, ter on the Australian coast and will not be available for perhaps a year, it is possibie he will return to South America and enlist in one of the armies there. "It beeomes a fhabit," he remarked, *'and it does not matter very much in which particular army it is." After his experiences in Spain, he joined the Fxencli Foreign Legion and before volunteering for the J Force -in New Zealand a year ago he was also in the French and British Armies.
