Poroutawhao W.I.'s Birthday Celebrated
The Poroutawhao Women's Institute . celebrated its fifteenth | birthday recently, when a .social evening was held. • Tnere was a large attendance of members and .friends ahd all- present had a mibst "ehjoyable- evehin'g. j Songs were tendered by Mesdames' Sutcliffe, .^Green, ' and . B. ' Rowe, and Miss B. Carle. A 'twoact play was presented by Mrs. !B. jAnderson and Mrs. Perigo, while a pianoforte solo by Miss A. Hewitt ]was much appreciated. Other items were: Monoiogue, Mrs. Benning, Imusical iteni, Miss Betty Penny and Mr. Penny; and sword dance, Misses Audery Cameron and Gwen Davidson. The Well-known ent'ertainer, 'Mrs.' Bessie Anderson, of Lower Hutt, was recalled many times with her amusing numbers. ' • The birthday c&ke was made by Miss Ruth Olds, one of the members and was artistically decorated -by Mrs. Sutcliffe. The candles were lit by foiindation members, performers and Visitors from other institutes. The i^derdtfqn president, Mrs; PoWfellp feut the1 ;dake and ccngrgtulated the institute on' its splendid record. The president of the institute, Mrs. Carle, was M.C. '
