If New Zcaland wero to fulfil its destiuy iu thc Britisli Coiniuonwealtli of Nations it miist use its uon-agricul-tural and non-pastoral lands aa effeetivoly as it used its farm lands, said the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, in tho course of an Arbor Day ceremouy today. His Excellcncy refcrred to the valuable national asset New Zealand had in its exotic forests and said the loc'al nianufaeturc jof various pulp produets sueh as newsprint and other papers, would niean the ultiniate saving of £3,000,000 in import funds. In addition the high produetivity of these forests would yield a iarge surplus of timber and pulp produets which would iriercase New Zealand 's*export trade by £5,000,000, Over 20,000 trees are beiug planted iu Wellington.
