Precautions To Avoid Air Piracy
Reeeived Monday, 8.50 p.m. HONG KONG, August 2. The Government has assigued extra police to the Hong Kong airport to search all outgoiug aireraft, passengers and baggage, for arins to prevent further attempts at air piracy. Tliis is the direct result of the' Cathay Paeifie disaster on July 16 when 26 persons. were killed in a crash following an abortive attempt to pirate a Catalina bound from Maeao to, Hong Kong. Meanwliile B.O.A.C. has asked London to instruct all air crews eastward bound to lock themselvQS in during flights in this region and also requested hostesses to be especially vigilant of suSpicious . aetions by passengers, B.O.A.C. uses _flyingboats which are thought more vulnerable to piracy. Nevertheless the B.O.A.C.- subsidiary, Hong Kong Aairways, flying land planes to Shanghai and Cqnton are also taking special precautions. Between 4U and 50 airc.raft of II companies depart from Hong Kong daily.
