Bowling Club Reviews Activities
Sixty-seven members of the Paraparaumu Beach Bowling Club were present at the ninth annual meeting herd recently. The financial position of the club proved very sound, notwithstanding the fact that considerable expenditure had been involved in the erection of the new pavilion. The membership continued its increase, there being 76 active and 41 assoeiate . members in the men'ssection, while.in the ladie's' section there is a total of 31 active and eight assoeiate members. The club's championships, which were held during the year, were won as f ollows : — Senior smgles: R. Tel- • ford. Ju-nior singles: "M. E. Wood. ■' Ghampionship pairs: D. Jenkins ' and F." W. Gnberd (s) . Champion- • ship fours: W. West, L. Evans, H. !,Starr and F. W. Gilberd (s). ■I In' the Dominion championships ' the .'ciub was represented by Messrs. H; Udy, H.' Walker, F; W- Gilberd and J. B. Young. Mr. E. Wood • represented ' the club in the'WelImgtoh Bowling Centre's ciiampionship and was 'successful in reach-ing.ppst-sectionpi.ay. In ■ addressiiig the'' meeting, the president, JVIr- F. K. Henderson, cbngratulated these members on ■ their success. During the year, the ' club had' organise'd a veterans'. ! tpurnament for ali boWlers in .the ■ Country Pennant area . who were ■ bver 70 years of age. This had been woh by the home team. The president presented each member of the team with silv.er bars to mark the occasion. They were;: Messrs. N. W. 'Higginson, W. J. McGulloch, W. J. • -Seammell and J. D. Brown- (s) . A pleasant interlude took place during -the evening when the president of the lkdies' section, Miss 1 Cobb, presented the greenkeeper, Mr, W. S.te ward, with a bowls bag in appreciation of the interest he had always taken in their activities. Prior to vacating the chair, Mr. Henderson, on behalf of the members, presented the secretary and the tr'easurer with a handsome golid ieabh.er suitcase each in appreciation of. their serVices. • The election of officers-resulted as follows President •: Mr. .M.
