Solid Display Of Hockey At Otaki
V At the Otaki Domain on Saturday, Te Horo men turned 011 their. usual solid- display and it was not long before they 'wei'e shootirig goais from all angles. Their greaier, experience was too much of a hurdle for the younger Rahui team to .contend with. The latter made numerous onslaughts and really put up a very fair showmg, but the Te Horo 'full-backs, as is customary, played like men possessed when their circie was invaded. Te Horo have a record of many years standing of aiways being the hardest team in the district t;o eontend with, and their hard-hitting, deadly shuoting, when- jn the opposition circie, was a tr-eat to watch. Messrs. C. Hook and, "S. McDonald were rule>.ees. Members of the two ladies teams had apparently been looking forward to their ga-me for some time, and something of a holiday or picnic spirit prevailed. This was nol hurp rising when mother was opposing daughter, and there were frequent cases of sister versus sister. bTom' another angle, however, it was really a strenuous game,' and v>uperior fitness saw the B's sub'due the A's. Two young players. hai'dly in their teams were responsible for uuts, tanding displays, and their tacitics met' with generous approval. |On opposite wings were Miss Janet Hakaraia (B) and Miss Betty I Hakaraia (A) . Both showed great speed and even greater coolness when .pressed. A good deal of the success of the B team came from | the f ormer's work, the oider and 'more experienced players giving her plenty to do, and she did not let them down. Miss B. Hakaraia also came through with fiying coiours, and after several times raiding the opposition circie, only to, find the more experienced full-backs in her way, she finally evaded them to score the only goal for her side! The round of applause was well merited as she had turned on a practically solo effort. The Te Horo men's hockey team is hopeful that a ' game will oe arranged, between them and the Rest of Horowhenua. If such a game could.be arranged, it .would doubtless arouse considerable interest, -and should be the hie'ans of drawing a good gare.*' Old timers expressed the view that a curtain-raiser, similar to one staged many years ago, men m skirts and only„ ailowed to use one hand, versus ladies, would also help to fittmgly' Ihe'^bbVdiV.'
