Fireman's Long Service

At the meeting of the Otaki Volunteer Fire Briga'de in Otaki on Monday night, mention was made of the fact that Fireinan C. Pike had last week completed 25 years of service as a volunteer fireman., In congratulating Fireman Pike, Superintendent C. Sharp stated that his record was something he coul'd be justly proud of and that he had attained what ev'ery man in the room was aspirmg for. He added that Fireman Pike's achievement was all the more noteworthy in view of the fact that he had borne the scares of battle for the past 20 years. Superintendent Sharp sai'd that the opportunity would be given to citizens and fellow members, at a later date, to pay fitting tribute to Fireman Pike's services to the community. Fireman Pike, on rising to reply, was accorded a hearty round of applause. He briefly stated that he would be just as well pleased if not too much "fuss" was made, as he considered.he had only done his duty. .
