CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. The slnge of the Century Tlienti'e in Ihlgeware Koud was exteusively damuged by lire in the early hours of Sunday morning. The lire brigade was called at 12. UJ a.ui. and the outbreak was checkcd as it was beginning to spread to the theatre proper. it is believed the lire started in an electric motor which j-aises the stage curtain. The llames traveiied along tlie side drapings up to the main curtain, which was raised, and tlicn broke through the roof' at the back of the theatre.
