Coming-of-age Celebrated

The Anglic'an Hall, Otaki, decorat.ed in blue and wnite.streamers, was the venue for a gay and animated scene on Saturday night. The occasion was a coming-of-age party given by Mr. and Mrs. R. Eaton in honour of their only daughter, Betty. The guests, numbermg aimost 100, were received by Betty and her mother. The former was tastefuhy dressed in • a frock with blue lace top and full bishop sieeves and white net skirt, with applique blue flowers. Mrs. Eaton wore pink morocain, with a fur shoulder cape. Dancing to spirited and most tuneful music by Mrs. May, of Raetini, assisted by Mr. W. Nevihe, of Levin, was freely indulged in, Mr. Bert Evans, of Paraparaumu, carrying out tne duties of M.C. in a most efdcient manner. Numerous items also kept tne gathering in gay mood. These included a pianoaccordeon solo by Mr. W. Blair, a solo by little Miss Wendy May, a -pianoforte duet by Mrs. and Miss May, tap dancing by Mrs. A. Snooks, a piano accordeon solo by Mrs. May, solos by Mr. D. Miratana? and a humorous sketch afid cloa dance by Mrs. May and her "Dutch Boy," ail of which were heartily encored. After a tasty supper had been served by Mrs. Royal and Miss Eaton had cut the attractive birthday cake, made by Mrs. Alex. Brown, of Otaki, Mr. R. Bills, 'in proposing the toast of the guest of the evening, referred in eulogistic terms to the we.ll-known hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Eaton, and toi the deserved popularity of ' their | charming- daughter. Musical hon- j ours followed, after which Mr. { Eaton replied and presented Betty with a large silver key. i Sustained applause greeted Miss ; Eaton when, in responding, she j thanked all who had attended and! all who had helped in any way to} make the evening so enjoyable, with special thanks for the many lovely presents received. Novelty dances were won by Miss. B. Sweetman, of Paraparaumu,} and Mr. D. Walker, of Te Horo, and j by Miss U. and Mr. . S. Wylie, of : Otaki Raiiway. Visitors were pres- ! ent from Wellington, Paraparaumu, I Raetihi, Ohakune Junctidn, Hast- j ings, Levin and Auckland.
