Heavy Seas Flood Auckland Road

AUCKLAXD, July 7. Backed by a strong northeast wind, heavY seas pounded the whole of Waterfront Road in Auckland between (i and 8 o'cloek tonight. Bea water invaded several sections between Kohimaramara and St. Helier's Bay and a shop at Kohimaramara was deluged by waves which crashed over the sea wall durihg the worst of the gale. Waterfront Road was awash in several places and cars and buses ploughed through up to two feet of water. Passengers 'alighting from buses were forced to wade from the bus stops to the nearest dry ground. Some cars were towed away when they broke down through water entering carburetters. Residents of Kohimaramara described the flood as the worst they remember. They reealled a similar gale about 10 years ago.
