The highlight of activities had been the bahd'SN participa'tion in the 'Manawatu and district icontest at Pahnerston Tsforth- Consider'ing " that for most it was their firsf such experience, their performahce had "been quite creditabie. The h^iid had won the C grade (quicks'tep and D.rum Major Millard ,was to he congratiilated for his fine , wqrk. Tpe band had also been fortunate in havihg Mr. M. Kehoe as coach and thanks were due to him. j As' a fesiilt qf- the contest the ; Manawata and District Brass Bands' Association had- been re.formed and' the Levip delegates on the ex'eputive. were Mr, .C, Banpeid. and himself. "The band was out in force qn Christmas mqrning carolling and 3 lextend thanks to citizens for their support," continued Mr. Tpster. "Prbgramnres have been rendered on Friday nights and Sunday . afternoons, .while , . two , , af-ter . .chur.ch , concerts were given- We have visjited the Levin Farm on appropriate"1 |occasions and the hospitality extended to us hy Mr. T. J. Gh'pert and his offipers nrake the visits something to which all bapdsmen look for-ward- Shannon w'as v'isrted and the band gave a concert in aia of funds for the Shannon Fire Brigade. The band again paraqed bp Anzac Day, and participated in the celebration of the jubilee of th'e Wanderer-s Football Club. Tne band also attended several functions to assist amateur- bodies. In common w;ith other bands in Horowhenua, we have again this year supported the girls* "marching teams, cooperating with them and the Highland Bipe Band at tii§ opening o.f the season. A feat of endurance was the supplying of ths music for the pre-North Island marching championShips in Levin. Qur bapd had the honour of playing for the winning teafn. This was an occasion which' demonstrated the good fellowship existing between districi; bands, members of the Otaki. Band dividing up to swell the ranks of che Foxton and Levin organisations, , and making the playing of the Highland Fipe Band and ourselves much lightef. For the close of the marching season a day was held and the takings handed to tne pipe and our band, a gesture much appreciated? "Our thanks are due to the Pipe Band and the local marchipg teams who assisted us with a Band Day, while they also paraded in Oxford Street on the evening of our annual street and shop day. We are deepiy appieciative of the splendid band of ladies who come forward eacp year to organise and bring ta a sucqessful conclusion our annual app-al. The same sentiments are forwarded to the Citizens' Committee, who are r-esponsible for looking after- the business side of oue band. During my term of olfice Mr. E. J. Sitanley and the staff and boys at the Levin Traiping Centi'e have always been ready to help at any time, and to them I extend our cordial thanks."
