Telegrams to Palestine Information has been received by the P. and'T. Department that telegraphic communication has been restored to the Jewish section of Jerusalem. Telegrams pther than letter telegrams may be accepted for addresses which senders know to be in the Jewish section of the city. More Yehicles Registered Motor relicensing; just cqmplete'd shows that there is an incr ease in the nupiber pf yehicles in the Levin district. The total licensed as at June 30 was 1712, as compared with 1044 on the same date la^t year. Cars have increased from 9.24 to 1044, heavy vehieles from 102 to 134, light trade vPhifc'les from .228 to 249, trailers from 84' to. 101 and motor cycles from 31 to 39. Railway Outs Pending Those in'a PPSitipn to fmow are predicting that fairly substantial cu'cs in all railway timetables may be made by the Minister of Railways, Mr. Semple, shortly. With the approach \,pf winter, coal is always short, aho the, stfike fcy. the State coalminers on the West Coast and -the consequent loss pf production, is known to have given the railway heads to thlnk furiously. So don't be surprised if cuts are announced. / June Railfall There were 13 wet days during June but the rainfall fpr the month amounted to the comparatively small total of 2.15 inches, as against 9.44 inches in the same month of lasf year, advjses Mp S. Harvey, of Cambridge Street. For the first six nronths of the • year ended on June- 30 the aggregate rainfall is 22. 6L inches, which is .almost the same as for the corresponding period ' pf 1947, the toral then being 22.36 inches. There were 14 frosts 'during the past iponth, the heaviest recorded being six degrees on the 9th and 11th. Secretary's, Work When nominations for secretary were called at the apnual meeting of the Levin Municipal Band on Thursday night, Mr. R. A. Frederikson was nominated, seconded and elected with aeclaination all in ,a few moments. Much of the credit for placing the business side of the band in a sound position must go to Mr. Frederikson. Since it was reformed two years ago extra instruments and unifarms have been purchased for the band, while to complete the band's dress sterling silver hat badges have been ordered. A fund has also been opened with a view toi purchasing a new set o,f instruments.
