Road Safety Plans

WELLINGTON, June 30. Steps to have superfluous signs removed from railway level erossings, were approved by the New Zealand Road Safety Council today. A report aaid it was considered that unreason-able-restrietions and the use of superfluous signs tended to increase the dangers by lessening the respeet , Of motorists for warnings. The council also adopted resolutions. that motorists be reqnired to stop when' about to pass a sehool.bus discharging or embarlfing passengers, and that the present speed limit of 35 miles an hour on omnibuses and service cars be extended to 40 miles. The council approved a recommendation that the present, amount expendt d annually on road safety publieity (£13,000), be inereased by £7000. Of that sum, £4000 would be spent on a road safety exhibition to be nsed in eonjunction with winter shows.
