Further Development Over State Houses

A further development with regard to the uncompleted State house units was forthcomihg as the result of a letter froin the distrlet supervisor of the Department of Housing Construction, received by the Shannon Borough ' Council at its fortnightly meeting orr Tuesday evening. . ' , The supervisor stated that further .to the conversation with the representatives from the counell, held in Palmerston North recently, the roof tiling firms had ■ agaln been approached to' ascertain Whether there was any possibility of having the two remaining units oi Messrs. Sayer Bros.' contract roofed immediately. A Wellington firm had promised to put on one roof towards the end of this month, but the concrete tile manufacturers were still short of eement and were not prepared at present to promise roofs at definite dates. The coni tractors ha-d been requested to concentrate on the completion of tne one unit roofed and had agreed to do this, with the object of having the house completed in one month's time. The other unit, which is roofed, was being used to store materials which had to be kept dry, and it was difficult to see how this could be avoided. The delayed progress of the work was regretted, added the letter, but it had to be conceded that it was mainly due to the difficult supply position. The letter was received by« the meeting. .
