JUNIOR GAMES AT OTAKI

Two junior games were decided afc Otaki Domain and some bright football was witnessed: In the first between Hui Mai and Otaki excitement was intense practically from the kick-off , and' fans were " on their feet early when, a few mlnutes after the commencement of play, Catley dived "over for Hui Mai and F. Putu added the major points. Hui Mai 5, Otaki nil. Otaki promptly retaliated and the ever alert W- Royal tried for a ""pot." Thig he narrowly missed, the ball hitting the bar to bounce back into play. ^tevens picked it up smartly and rushed for the line to cross near the post. Royal made no misfcake with the kick. Hui Mai 5, Otaki 5,, : -The second half saw Hy.i Mai out fo. repeat their tactics and they niadfe valiant efforts for another quick try. They were succdssful, if more than a fittle lucky. T. Hakaraia, for Otaki, attempted to fprce, but the tricky ball evaded h|m, and H. Cook, of Hui Mai, was quick to grasp the . opportunity and pounced on the ball tq score. Hui Mai 8, Otaki 5, Otaki soon retaliated again and a nice~ rysh, headed by Davis from just over the halfway, took play into Hui Mai territory, Dayis passing to Royal, Who in turn passed to J. Hohipuha, who crossed the line. The kick failed. Hui Mai 8, Otaki 8. Otaki were immediately back pn the attack and an amusing inqident followed. From Hui Mai's twenty-five, J. Hohipuha secured possession and set out hotfoot for the line, with several opponents in pursujt. He successfully outpaced them to again cross the line, to discQver, much to his phagrin and' the delight of the spectators and the opppsition, that tfie whistle had gone almost from where ^he had started his marathon sprint. The game ended with no further score. For Otaki Royal, Davis, Hohipuha, Stevens, and Taratoa were outstanding, and Catley, for Hui Mai, gave a solid display. Mr. A. Chapman controlled the game. The second match saw the Rahui team emerge victors over Paraparaumu by the slender margjn qf three points to nil. Bright foot"ball was predominant and the game was full of incident, with both packs settling to their work in a style which brought forth much appiause. s. Wyiie was responsible for the only try of the game, which Mudgway was ynsuccessful in converting. Paraparaumu made desperate efforts to equalise, byt the Rahui back line saw to it that afi 'efforts to break away by'the visitors were quickly smothered, and the close of play found Rahui almost scoring again, when Ted Fox headed a determined rysh, but the ball reached the dead line. Mu M. Johnson controlled the game.
