BRIGHT JUNIOR GAME
A pleasing display of football was given by the Tokomaru and Wanderers junior teams when they piayed at Levin. The game was a close one and for some time scores were even, Wanderers finally emerging the victors by 14 points to 11. Tokomaru made a praiseworthy effort against a much fitter team and although they maintained a stout defenee, dprlng the first spell points steadily mounted agaihst tbtem. Wanderers, on the " other hand, kept the game going all the
time, making repeated attacks with both their forwards an;d backs. * Play had not been in progress iong before M. Haruley '(Wanderers) took a high baij and made an excellept ppening, passed. tq C. Hartley once more harried the Tokomaru defences until he made an opening, went through' and the ball roqpd its way tq Short, whq scored. Jf. Winiata failed to convert. Wanderers 6, Tokomaru 0. Then came a spectacular runaway try with B. Ward playing the ueading part as he made a 5(Uyara idash to penetrate his opponents' and dive under the posts. N. Winiata converted an easy bglj. Wftnderers U, Tokomaru (3. Tokomaru opened its account just before the end of the first spell, when Molioy Sgnt over a tricky ball. Wanderers 11, Tokomaru 3.. Now the -visiting team brought up all their reserves in an all out' attempt to score. Once more they pushed Wanderers bacs to the twenty-five and this time B. Turner raced away apd went down on the ball. Hartley failed to conyert. Wanderers 13, Tokomaru 6. Early in the second speil Tokomaru tpok the ipitiatiye and MQfioy retrjeved fhe ball frpm a line-out and passed to Hartlev, "who found his way over. Molioy conyertea. Wanderers 31, Tokomaru 33. Tne deciding points came when Wanderers were awarded a penalty kick and N- Winiata was sqccessful. Wanderers 14, Tokomaru 13. The referee was Mr. B, Aitcheson.
