-*■ AUCKLAND, June 14. The preseuce of an elephant in the garden of Mr. J. 0. Dixon, of Penrose, 011 Sunday niorning illustrated the value of having friends in the right places. Mr. Dixon had a stump in the garden too formidable to shift bv hand and too close to the house for blasting. He knew a man in a circus and jocularly suggested he help. Yesterdav the. elephant Topsy, aged (50, arrived riding in an open truck. While children rushed to the scene Topsy descended sedatelv and removed tlie stump with ridiculous ease. She" accepted with easv condesceusion thank offerings in the form of tapples and gave free rides to the delighted youngsters. Slie then crawled back on to the truck and returned to the city.
