Mount Egmont Visited By Levin Trampers
Some 20 members of the - LevinWaiopehu Tramping , Club, spent a most enjoyable King'S. Birth'day weekend at the hostel on the nprthern slopes of Mount Egmont. Bell's Falls and Dawson Falls were yisited by many. despite weather conditions, which permitted only- short glimpses of the panoramas for which Egmont is famous. Successful attempts were made- on the summit during Saturday, when two lady members were included in the party, and on Gunday when the weather suddenly improved during an eiementary course of alpine instruction. All who took part ln the climbing gained useful knowledge about the uses of iee axes and rope, and al'so a wide range of snow conditions, from powder snow to the ice experienced on the high ( peaks. Unfortunately, lack of equipment, mainly ice axes, prevented a large number from reaching the high slopes of the mountain. These members, however, were able to visit other beauty spots which proved to be more attractive to many of them. It is quite safe to say that Egmont provides everything to satisfy a trampers' heart, and the club is already resolved to make another visit there in the not too distant future.
