June Meeting Of Red Cross
i Mrs. J. A. Easton pre'sided over a meetmg of the Shannon Red Cross sub-centre, held in Laurvig's Hail last Monday afternoon. The. meeting moved a moti-on of sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. Bovis in their recent bereavement, Mrs. Easton commentmg on the amount of good work done m the community by Mr. and Mrs. Bovis. The secretary tabled a statement of accounts from the recent street stall which showed the satisfactory credit balance of £21. All who helped in any way were accorded the thanks of the eommittee. Special mention was made of the willing and > helpful assistance always given by Mr. D. Laurvig to all Red Cross activitie's. It was agreed to help two sick folk who were expected to be con-. lined to bed for many months by magazine. A splendid collection ofi eagazine. A splendid coliection of i clothing was received in response to the appeal by the Mayoress on cehaif of United Naticns, and the eommittee noted with satisfaction that most of the women's organisations in the district were following the lead of the Red Cross eommittee by making.a collection of at ieast one garment per member for this appeal. A letter of appreciation of the excellent parcel of new clothing sent forward last month w^s received from Palmerston North. Many small parcels of clothing are being received by the' eommittee from local sympathisers, and gratitude was expressed for this expression of public interest. "The eommittee in Shannon is only a small one composed of busy people, who are trying in a small way to further the work of the Red Cross Society, and such spontaneous acts of sympathy are very encouraging," said the president.
