AUCKLAND, June 1. Details of a scheme to establisli a faetorv at Mount Wellington for the manufacture of motor car parts, witli an initial outlav of £100,000, wero given by Mr. William Hepworth, managing director of the Bradford engineering (irui of Hepworth and Grandago, Ltd., oue of the Iargest manufacturers of iulernal combusion engine parts in Britain, in an interview. Mr. Hepworth is in New Zealand on belialf of an influential group of English cngineering companies for the purpose of selting up the faetorv. The manufacture of motor parts in New Zealand would mean cousidcrable import savings, said Mr. Ilepwortli, and would hclp to alleviate the presoni acute shortage of motor parts. This would be the first manufacture of motor car parts in New Zealand and was likelv to be the forerunner of a large industry in New Zealand. The faetorv will be in the Mount Wellington distriet. It will embody niany niodofn inuovations, as the probision maehinery that will be used needs good lighting and dust-free eonditions. The plant is being manufaetured at tne parent company's factories. When the scheme was fullv developed it would provide employment for 300 to 100 people, said Mr. Hepworth. Some technical persouuel would be brought: from Kngland. but New Zealand labour would bc employed to the greatest possible extent. Ilis firni was working in with the Auckland firm of Motor Specialties, Ltd., and it was hoped that Ihe new faetorv would be in operation carlv next vear, added Mr. Hepworth.:
