Electrical Storm Causes Damage In Otaki
A colourful electricai storm experlenced in Otaki between 7 and 8 p.m. last night was responsible ■for ja, complete breakdown of the Horowhenua Electric Power Boarcrs water lieater controi apparatus in the area. As a result all electric water heaters in Otaki were turned off throughout the night. The board had no knowledge of the damage until early this morning, but the engmeer, Mr. J. F. Bryce, said that in an effort to ;make up the iost time to consumers the power wpuld be turned on all day today. ; A good deal of damage was caus'ed between Otaki and Paraparaumu. Eiectrical fuses were blown, te^ephones. put oul of order' and con.trol gear destroyed. In Paraparaumu s'everal residents had the uncomfortable experience of havlng all their electric xignt bulos jexploded at once. Mr. Bryce commented that the damage at Paraparaumu did not amount to a gr.eat deal materially, but a fair amount of repair work wouid be requlred.
