Mr. L. A. Whitham, a former postmaster at Levin and now of Feilding, was a weekend visitor to Levin. The postmaster, Mr. A. V. Morgan, is at present on annual leave and is visiting the North Auckland district. Mr. J. Patterson, of head office, is relieving postmaster during Mr. Morgan's absence. The -.death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. Joseph Fleetwood, of Feilding, a talehted musician and conductor of the Feilding Municipal Band for the past 11 years. Known throughout the Dominion,' his sudden passing at the age of 52 years is a distinct loss to band circles. A former member of the famous Star Rugby Club, Invercargill, which built up a world record m a club Rugby premiership in the 90's, Mr. James Strang, died on Baturday, aged 73." Mr. Strang was a keen bowler in the Riverton and Invercargill Clubs. He represented Southland and gained a high measure of success in championships and tournaments. He played cricket and was at one time a member of tlie Garrison Band. In business, Mr. Strang was a prominent member of the furniture traae. For 30 years he was in partnership with his brothers.
