Sending Food And Clothes Before Money

DUNEDIN, May 5. As far as possible the money eoilected through the United Nations' appeal for children, will be spent within New Zealand on food, clothing, medicai supplies and other necessities, and these goods will be shipped overseas. This information was givjen by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, in reply to an inquiry tonight. Mr. Nash also saia that in- any instance where goods required were not\ available in New Zealand, sterling eurreney would be released to the fund to permit the goous to be purchased on overseas markets. The policy -would definitely be, however, to send food, clothing and other supplies available in New Zealand rather than money.
