Mr. Calwell And His Ban On Maoris
Reeeived Wednesdav, 10.45 p.m. CANBERRA, May 5. Mr. J. T. Lang (Lang Labour), New South Wales, asked the Prime Minister, Mr. Chib'ey, in the Ilouse today whether he had seen the statement by the New Zealand Prime Minister, Mf. Eraser, expressing concern at a statement by the Minister for Inimigration, Mr. Calwell, that a Maori ex-serviceman nxarried to an Australian, could not remain i in Australia. Mr. Lang asked whether' j Mr. Chiflev would clarify the Governi ment's • policy with Mr. Fraser. Mr. Calwell, who replied to the question, said the New Zealand High. (Jommissioner had discussed the matter with him. His departmental head had written a letter to the High Commissioner to be forwarded to Mr. Fraser, Mr. Calwell said.
