Doctor Cannot Sit On Hospital Board
WELLINGTON, April 29. Tlie disqiialification of Dr. II. G. Rix
as a member o± the Wellington Hospital Board has been intimated to the Board. by the Auditor-General. In a letteer to the Board received on Wedpesday, the Auditor-General stated that he had written to Dr, Rix advising him that it had conie to his knowledge that, at the time of his election/ he was "concerned or interested in a contract to perform certain services to the Board in return for the payment oi £200 per anniim," In the opinion ot tJio Audit Office, it was stated, the qxistence of this. contract disqualitied Dr. Rix Jn teyms of. Section 3 of the Local Authorities (Members'' l^ontracts) Act, 1934. Re- had never been a member of the Board and his attention was drawn to the p.enalty provi-sious-of the Act. The Audit Office said it" would be glad to leafn that Dr. Rix had ceased to. bg a .tnember of the Board. The chairman, Mr, W. J, Gaudin, said it seemed sojnewhat of an anomaiy that a doctor in receipt of a fee could nor sit on the Board. It was decided that the infonnation be passed to the Lower Hutt City Council to talcq the necessary action. Dr. Rix represents Lower Hutt.
