Danger of Fire When SyrenCut Off
The danger of fires breaking out when the syren -was cut off during the power restrictions was brought to the attention of the Levin Fire Board by the brigade at the annual meeting of the board last nigiit. This was a matter which was probably affecting every brigade in the Dominion, said the chairman, Mr. F. E. Parker. _ - A suggestion was made that per-.-haps the dry cleaning establishment might be approached and asked if it would sound its steam whistle' in the event of an emergency during the cut off- periods. The post offiee could .also be asked .to put the call through to there.The stiggestion was.a sound one and he thought the proprietor of the . firm, Mr. J. Eccles, would cooperate with the .brigade, said Mr. Parker. There Was one difficulty, however, and. that was if the alarm v/as at night. After further discussion, it was deeided that. the suggestion be kept in view, but that * meanwhile the board wait on the managingsecretary and engineer of the Horo^ whenua Power Board to ^ee if some other way of surmoimting the difficulty wras possible.
