Difference Over Ground

"PRO BONO PUBLICO."

* (To the Editor) . : Sir, — In a recent Issue of your paper I noticed a report of a Horo-wh-enua A. and P. Association meeting in which it was statea that theLevin Racing Club had asked for •a meeting of both committees, under the chairmanship of our Worthy Mayor, to consider their dlfferences. The president of the ■A. and P. Association stated that his committee would meet as suggested, and would pref-er a public meeting,0 or that the Press at least ■be present. Further that he was prepared to stand by all his actions and statements in the past. I . fekl the president made a \ serious mistake and should have; insisted upon the Press being pres- ■ ent and that all melnbers of both. bodies have the right to attend, if' not the general public as Well. The presidents of both bodies: should realise that they are the trustees for the time being only, •and that the residents of the district have the right to know what is going on. ■ It Is rumoUl-ed that th'e club is out to push the A. ahd P. Association from the grounds, which are jointly held, and this would be the end of our shows. Is the rising . generation to be brought up to thihk that the only thing in life is racing, or is it to be given a chance to take an interest in the improv.ement of -sheep and cattle breeding and agricultural methods? Knowing some of the club committee members, I cannot believe- that they would want -a secret meeting, with even the Press locked out, or that their actions . or statements will not stand the of day, as the president of the A. and P. Association claims his will. On behalf of the rising generation, I appeal Tor an end to this secreey, and I feel sure that a's an outcome these large and valuable grounds will not be held for the benefit of a few, but for the good of the district. Yours'etc.,

Levin, Aprii 18.
