Rejection of Sanatorium Site Deplored
. "It must be regarded as a deplorable fact that a commiittee of experts, at considerable expense to 'the country, shouid view sites between NeW Plymouth and Welling--ton and select one, only to have it; turned down," said Cr. R. A. Fred-i erikson, speaking at a meeting of the' Levin Borough Council last night. He was referring to the rejection' by the Minister of Native! Affairs, Mr. Fraser, of the site ehosen in Kawiu Road, Levin, for the proposed Western Hospital Districts' santorium. The discussion arose when the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, formally notified the council of the rejection of the site. There were other sites in .and around Levin which would no . doubt be ■ found' suit^fcle, he said. Anything the council could do to get the sanatorium sited in Levin, it should do, said Cr. F. D. Chainey. He added that it was an important projec.t for the town. The Mayor suggested that the council should . ask the Minister qf Health, Miss Mabel -Howard, to have her qpmmittee of experts again Visit- Levin5, and Cndeavour' to find a suitable alternative site in or around the towh. The council resdlved that the Mayor represent the matter to tbfe Minister along these lines' and extend an invitation to the chairman of the HoroWhenua County Council to joih h-im. ± _
