League of Mothers Hears About UNESCO
The Levin League of Mothers held the April meeting in the Odd'fellows' Hall, Mrs. C. Nichol presiding over a good attendance Of members. A special welcome was extended to Mrs. Hinde, a former presideht, and Mrs, J. L. Edwards after her trip to Austrtlia. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mrs. Saunders, members standing in silence. . Members were reminded that a chrysanthemum shoW would be held at->the May' meeting-. A-churcl; , parade of members is to be held in the Methodist ChurCh on the evening of Mothers' Day. The thought for the month was giyen by Mrs". E. Bott as follows "The same reason which makes us wrangle with our neighbours makes war with nations." A reading was taken from the League magazine by Mrs. M. Kehoe, after which Mrs. Hind presented two much appreciated elocutionary items. The- guest speaker was the New Zealand delegate to the Unesco conference 'in Paris, Mr. G. Ball. He gave a brief outline of the activities of this organisation at the conference, and said that work often commenceed at 8.30 a.m. and lasted until midnight. There had been 81 delegates repre'senting 31 nations with the common interest of education. Mr. Ball gave an interesting insight into the Iife and customs in France, and also spoke of the rationing and black market activities, making his'' audience realise • how fortunate are those who live in this land of full and plenty. Mrs. K. E.'Wilson move'd a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Ball and it was carried by reclamation.
