Man Charged With Murder Of Stepson
CHRISTCHURCH, April 13. Charged with the murder of Leslie James Boswell, aged 3i- years, on February 9 at Sumner, th'e boy's stepfather, William Eric Cooper, nurseryman, aged 43, appesired before Mr. H. R. Lawry, S.M., in the Maaistrate's Court this morning. The Crowri Frosecutor, Mr. -A. T. Donnelly, and his assistaht, Mr. A. W. Brown, conducted proceedihgs for the Crown. Cooper was represented by Mr. J. K. Moloney and Mr. B. J. Drake. A charge of assaulting Florence Maud Cooper on February "4 was withdrawn. ; Sergeant J. B. Kearton, oflfici'al police photographer at Christchurch, said that on February 11 he went to Clifton, where he saw the body, which- was lying face
down some 30 feet down an em-1 bankment. .v There was a cbnsiderable quantity of blood on' the fsice' and clothing. There was ho defined track from the road to where the body was lying, but whoevef had left it there nad come through the broom with it. He was preseiit when Senior Detqctive F. J. Brady found a blbod-covered stone with a piece of bone adhering to it.
