Rugby Season Discussed

The management committee .-of ihe Horowhenua Rugby Union held. its first meeting of tne year in / Levin on Tuesday niffht nreside'd over by Mr. A. Gillespie. Opening the meeting, the chairman welcomed tne new members and those cf the old committee who had been returned. To those who had not been re-elected, he expressed his dianks for the service they had vendered during last -season. It was neeessary for all members to drop all personal feelings and parochialism as far as clubs were ccncerned, said Mr. Gillespie, and work for -the 'good of football generally. If this was done and all differences were sunk, then some good would come* out of the year's delibe ra tions. He wished to make it clear to clubs that all conten-•tiOT-is matters , should be brought to the notice of the committee by letter and n*ot raissd at meetings, aS had happened once or twice . lbfst . year. ' Two recommendations put for-ward-at the annual meeting" last , Wsdnesday were discus-ed and both rejected. One was the issue of co-mplimeiitary season tieke ts to players and the other the raiSing of "gate fees to the public. It was thought by the committee that the continuation of' the issue of gate pas ees to only those who were t .actuaily playing on the ,grounds was all that was neeessary., If foot- v ballers were playing an early game on Rugby Park it was felt, however, that they should be allowed to retain their passes so that they could later .see a match on another ground. At the annual meeting it was expressed by some that, all players should have complimentdry passes so that they could see repressntative games free, but when tliis ! was discussed last nisht , it was ; mentionsd that the union couM ; not alford this privilege.
