INYBRGARGILL, April 6. A westeriy gale accompanied by frequent rain squalls, lashed Invercargill to-day in "one of the worst storms experienced for many months. Tlie wind foree ahont 5 p.m, reached 75 miles an hour. . Walking in the streets was ha?ardous, three persons blown over being adxnitted td hospital, Electric wires were broken and as repairs could not be completed before darkness, power was not restofed in the subarbs to-night. Fences, radio masts and aerials were bxown down in vafious parts of the city and a cycle shed wrecked at the Surrey Park School. Boisterous conditions continued tonight. Stormy weather is alsd , reported • in other parts of Southldad,, j No work was possible on the BlufU waterfront to-day. Three men' admitted to the Iftkipital as the result of injuries suffer1^ ed. during the storm are Mr. W. A. Ott, aged 74, concussion and fractured shoulder; Mr. A. J. Fcpe, aged 77, concussion and lacerations; "Mr. W. E. Pulley, concussion' and bmises. Mr. Ott and Mr. Pope were blown over in the street. Mr. Pulley was cycling hehind a motor lorry when the wind lifted parfc of the load of • wallboard from the lorry and knocked him off his cycle. ,
