Bright Softball in Easter Matches
A bright and entertaining programme of softball games was seen at Palmerston North on , Easter Monday, when a series of cdmpetitions were contested by Manawatu, Horowhenua and Wairarapa. Tlie highlights of .the play were the games for the women's .North Island championship between' | Wairarapa and Manawatu, and the men's Senior A grade annuai cqmpetition for the Nicholls' trophy, oetween Horowhenua and Manajwatu. • • ' The senior ^cliampiQdship game was closely coiitested and interqstmg to w'atch. Both teams played gocd softball and made • f ew mistakes 'in' their batting and field play. Manawatu had slightly better combination in thd field, but Wairarapa kept them tov it throughout. The game resulted in a win for the local'girls by 7 runs to 4. ' ; ■ • The m'en's game .was rather an easy win for Manawatu, who piled on 28 runs to Horowhe'qua's 11. Tne game nevertheless- was a good exhibjtion of softball. • . The- follbwing are the l'esults of the games played: — Women's Senior B grade: Manawatu 12, Wairarapa 3; Horowhenua 27, Wairarapa 2; Manawatu 25, Horowhenua 7. Women's Junior grade: Horowhenua 21, Wairarapa 5; Manawatu 7, Wairarapa 4. ; Men's Senior A grade: Wairarapa 14, Horowhsnua 7; Manawatu 28, Horowhenua 11. Men's Senior B grade: Manawatu 12, Horowhenua 11. The results of last week's club games in Horowhenua were as follows: — Kimberley Diamonds A 18, Pirates 13; Otaki Aces 22, Raukawa 7. -
