Use of Domain by Winter Sports Bodies

±~ — > — — ■ — The inadequacy of the Otaki Domain to cater for the winter sports, activities of the- town. was again shown last week at a meeting of the Otaki Borough Council, when applications were received from ♦ie varibus bodies for the use of the ground. The Horowhenua Hockey Association 'sought control of. the hockey playing area on the domam. from April 10 to September 25. The Horowhenua Rugby Union asked [for the use of the ground for the coming football season, presumably on the same terms as last year — 10 per cent. of the, gross gatetaki'ngs to be paid to' the council. Applications were also received from the Otaki and Rahui Football Clubs. . ; Councillors admitted that the ground was too small to cater for all sports, but were agreed that the council should do its best to see that all had playing space. It was f.elt that trouble might arise when two important games were' to "be played on the domain at "the one time.. ' • •: Cr. E. J. Cook considered that the RUgby Union should have prior consideration. The . matter of a clash in matches, he th'ought* could be amicably arranged between the Otaki and Rahui Clubs. , , Cr. E. T. Bartosh was of the opinion that September 25 for the closing of the domain to winter sport was too late to suit summer activities. The ground would have to be given attention - and more time would be required.Cr. H. W. Hakaraia said that all sports bodies should be able to arrange grounds. The footballers were agreeable to giving part of their dead ball area to enable the provision of a hockey field.
