Eight Injured in Mishap At Reikorangi
» / • " " Two adults and six youths were injured when one side of a truck j which' was conveying them to Wai" j kanae railway station after the closing of the Presbyterian Bible class camp at Reikorangi, at 4 p.m. yesterday, collapsed and they were thrown to the main highway. ' •All' *were' taken- by " ambulance; ito Wellington. Two are now in the Wellington Public Hospital an'd one in the Hutt Public. Hospital. They are: William McRae, aged 30, of 232 Adelaide Road, Newtown; head injuries: condition improving. John Hardie, aged 12, of Martin Street,.. Upper Hutt; lacerations tb the knees; condition satisfactory. " Alexander Anderson, aged 58, of 327 High Street, Lower Hutt; lacerations to the head; condition satisfactory (in Hutt hospital) . Those treated and subsequently taken" to their homes are: Robert Armstrong, aged 15, of Presbyterian Home, Isiand Bay.. R. H. Robinson, aged 14, of 316 Main Road, Eastbourne. * W. J. Millward, aged 16, of 26 Rossiter Avenue, Lower Hutt. Ksnneth Simmonds, aged 13, of .30 Raine Street; Karori. Allan Boyd, aged 15, of 73, Trafalgar Street, Lower Hutt. The driver of the truck was Mr. Alfred Bryant. The truck was not covered in, but had high sides to the tray. The younger people at the camp had been taken by bus to the railway station at Waikanae just ahead of the truck. An ambulance took the injured to Wellington 'S.fter they had received " medical . attention at a house a short distance away.'" Conditions were showery when the accident occurred and heavy rain followed soon afterwards. Mr. L. B. Quartermain, of Ariki Road, R.os.eneath, who was in the truck, went back to the camp for the camp chairman, Mr. Jamieson; .a doctor was sought by telephone from the Reikorangi post ofllce, and- an ambulance summoned. The camp had been attended by 210 members frbm Marton, Feilding, Otaki, Wellington and- the Hutt Valley. It was one of the most successful yet held. The Rev. J. R. Nairn, 'Of Khandallah, was. camp "father."' The weather was fine until just before camp was ehded, though the main marquee was blown down in a storm on Saturday night. ' Rugby football was played and athletic events decided. The religious services were a feature of the camp, which was for both senior and junior Bible class members. - V
