"B.B.C. Gospel Singer" In Levin
• An appreciative audience greeted the "B.B.C. Gospel Singer," Mr. Ja'cquesHopkins, L.R.A.M., M.R.S.T., at the- Century Hall last evening. The building was well filled both upstairs and down. The service was evangelical, but was conducted on somewhat differ,,ent lines to what Is usual. Wellknown hymns used by Christians of all denominations were sung by both Mr. Hopkins and the congregation. The Scriptures were read and Mr. Hopkins used telling incidents to bring home the sacred truths. There was . community singing, competently led, just prior" to the commencement of the service, and during this period a hearty welcome to Levin was extended to the visitor by well-known citizens. "Mr. Hopkins has come to New Zealand to prepare a series of religious br'oadcasts 1 for the National Broadcasting Service. He has - prepared no less than 34 Sunday broadcasts for the B.B.C. in recent years, and the title "Gospel Singer" was bestowed on him by the B.B.C. Mr. Hopkins is a teacher of music by profession, having received his trqining at the Theological 'Academy , London. ► Tonight's service should not be missed as Mr. Hopkins will tell his life's story, a story of thrilling interest, accompanying it with the' singing 5f hymns.
