Monthly Meeting Of Ihakara Women's Institute
The Ihakara Women's Institute met recently for the first time this year. The president, Mrs. R. Butt, welcomed all members, specially mentioning Mesdames Poweli • and Ivan TaylOr, who had heen on the sick list. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory •of Mrs. Barker, the institute's link correspondent in England, who had recently passed away. Letters of thanks were read from grateful members of Hatfield Hyde Institute for parcels received, and each mentioned the value of the fat sent. Members were reminded to each bring a small tin of fat to the March meeting for inclusion in another parcel. The highlight of the afternoon was a talk by Mrs. G. W. Munford, of Shannon, who has recently returned from England. She was accorded a hearty vote of -thamks and presented with . flowers. The. bring-and-buy stall was in charge oi Mesdames Qotter and" Gardiner. The hostesses were Mesdames Hudson and Collett and Misses Forsyth and Hall. The various competitions were won as follows: — Points, piece of Christmas cake: Mrs. Gaidiner 1, Mrs. Butt 2, Mrs. Hasloek 3. Runner beans: Mrs. Hasloek 1, Mrs. Hudson 2, Mrs. Wilmshurst- ' 3. jDwarf beans: Mrs. Hudson 1, Mrs. j Wilmshurst 2, Mrs. Hall 3. Flower: Mrs. Bowker 1, Mrs. Hasloek 2, Mesdames Armstrong and Wilmshurst ,3 (equal) .- Shrub: Mrs.* Haslo'ck 1, ,Mrs. Gardiner 2, Mesdames Taylor and Elliott 3 (equal). Social competitions were won by Mesdames Armstrong and Brooks.
