Plans To Improve Otaki's Water Supply
. Alternative schemes for the improvement of the Otaki water supply by placing the intake further into the hills were given lengthy consideration by the Otaki Borough Council at a me.eting on Wednesday night. The council received a further report from the consulting engineers, Messrs. Seaton, Slad'den and Pavitt, of Wellington, outlining the schemes in detail and giving the cost of them. The first proposal eiivisaged the construction of the intake about 60 chains upstream from the present intake, and the acquiring of a total area of about 2865 acres. The estimated cost w&s £13,710. The alternative scheme provides for the construction of the intake at a point about 165 chains above the present intake, and the acquiring of a somewhat smaller area of ,.2095 acres of land. The cost of this was estimated at £16,395. After its discussion, the council decided that the engineers, the Mayor (Mr. C. F. Atmore) and the town clerk (Mr. Alex. Wilson) should confer with the Health Department on the whole ques-. tion. * ' .
