Meeting Of Otaki Women's Institute

There was not the usual good attendance at the February meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute, undoubtedly due to tlie absence of mothers of young children. Mrs. W. Taylor occupied the chair. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Lowry, Calwell, McKeeh, Turnbull, Synnott, Ralph, Davies, McConville, Johnson, Procter, A. Taylor, Kendrick and Empson. Mrs. Taylor welcomed members and wishedl them a happy year in institute work. An- invitation was received to attend the Kimberley W.I.'s birth:day party on February 18 and Levin's ' on April 15. • Mrs. Bowey forwarded some children's gloves for the saies table and also tendered her resignation from the committee. The field day at Massey College on February 25, when Otaki and Oroua will combine, was discussed. It was decided to obtain a bus. All members will take their lunch and afternoon tea, hot water being supplied. The annual meeting of the South Wellington Federation is to be held at Tawa Flat on April 22 and Mrs. Ross and Miss Brown were appointed delegates. A bus will take members on that date if it is desired. Institutes were asked to compete in a handicraft competition and also one for the best arranged bowl of flowers, the bowl not to be more than nine inches across. Fifty-nine parcels have been despatched to members' relatives and friends in Britain as a result ■of the saies table conducted at each meetihg, Many letters expre'ssing appreciation have been received from the * recipients. . A scheme is being arranged for members to support CORSO workers in China. Mrs. King gave the motto for the day. A very dainty afternoon tea was served, . the hostesses being Mesdames K. Taylor, H. Taylor, A. E. Taylor, Radcliffe and Tooby. It was intimated that the annual meeting would take . place in March, and liominations were called for the office of president and 12 members of the committee. The consent of all -norninees had t© be obtained. Nominations are also called for the office of president and members of the South Wellington Federation.
