Personal , Mr. and Mrs. W. Swindlehurst, of Cambridge, are spending a few days in Shannon rehewing' old aequaintanees. • The f riends of Mr. R. Hayes, Engle's Road, will learn with regret that he has found it* necessary to enter the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. His many local f riends join in wishing him a •speedy recovery, . ' Mrs. C. Newton, of Kingston Road, who has been a patient jn the Palmerston North Hospital for almost four months, was able to return home on Wednesday. ' Mrs. Newton is now greatly improved in health. Taxi Stand Granted. The town clerk, Mr. J. T. Bovis, advises that the District Traffic Inspector has approved of a small portion of Plimmer Terrace being marked off as a taxi stand. The stand will be between the council chambers and Mr. Roach's shop'. Christmas Cheer Fund Speaking .at a recent. meeting of the Shannon Borough Council, the Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, advised that a letter of thanks has been received from the Palmerston North Hospital Board *for »the local contribution to the Christmas Cheer Fund. Mr. Fitzgerald stated that the Mayoress had asked him to pass on her thanks to those wives of councillors who had assisted her in the sale of badges.
