No Slackening In Building Activity
There is no indication of a slackening of building activity in Levin." For the period of ni-ne months ended December S31 last the Levn Borough Council issued 50 permits of a total value of £82,181 for new private dwellings an'd 43 permits valued at £3418 for additions and alterations to existing dwellings. For the corresponding period of last year 54 permits of an aggregate value of £85,383 were Jssued for new dwellings. There were 34 permits for alterations and additions, their value being £5676. Reporting to Monday night's meeting of the Levin- Borough Council, the building inspector, Mr. H. T. Tilyard, advised that during the month of December ,six new dwellings were completed and occupied. The number of. dwellings in various stages of construction at December 24 was 46. "During the Christmas holMays," continued- Mr. Tilyard, "one or two sheds were erected without permits. I understand one case has already been referred to the Building Controller during his visit to the borough. The owner of the other has not been able to be contacted. During the- holidays a concrete wall has been erected along . three sectiohs in McKenzie Street. I am unable to say at present whether or not a permit was obtained for this."
