Tennis Club Plays Handicap Singles Competition
4$. The ladies' and men's handicap singles competiti'ons for the Baylis Cups were played last weekend by the St. Joseph's Tennis Club. In the ladies'. section Mrs". B. Hudson was the winner, while A. Gray annexed the honours' in the men's section. Competition was very keen throughout and many even matches were witnessed. The cups". are to be presented at a social in the Oddfeilows' Hall tomorrow evening. Detailed results in the matches played were as follows: — Ladies' Singles First round: Miss Fanning beat Mi'ss Powell, Miss J. Batten beat Mrs. Weaver, Mrs. Hudson beat Miss McMinn, . Miss Galloway beat Miss Prendeville, Mrs. Inkster beat Miss M. Batten, ( Miss. J.' Lynch beat Mrs. Ryder, JMiSS Perigo, ^Miss^^^lMMpy . v- % Second ' round : Miss 'Fahnlhgbeat Miss- Bismark, Mi-s. Hudson beat Miss Batten, Miss Galloway beat Mrs. Inkster, Miss Lynch beat Miss Clapcott. Third round: Mrs. Hudson beat Miss Fanning 9 — 8, Miss Lynch beat Miss Galloway 9 — 7. Final: Miss Hudson beat Miss Lynch 6 — 3, 4 — 6, 6 — 3. Men's Singles First round : A. Gray beat H. McPher'son, J. Cole beat P. Freder'ikson, G. Hesp beat J. Powell, K. Robinson beat B. Fitzgerald, M. Saunders beat C. Melville, B. Hudson a bye. Second round: Gray beat Cole by default, Robinson beat Hesp, Saunders beat Hudson. Third round: Saunders beat Robinson 9—2, Gray a bye. Final: Gray beat Saunders 6 — 4, 6—4. •
