LABOUR COST ALLOWANCE IN CLOTHING TRADE
WELLINGTON, Jm. 16. A further increase of 6A per cent. in the allowauce for the Jabour content, has been granted to most clothing trade manufacturers by the Price Tr ihunui. This increase opevates simultancousl^ with the wage ingreases granted by the Court of Arbitratioii, to become eil'ec-' tive as from today for clothing trade workers uuder the industry's three nuijor awards. Mr. A. R. Dellow, assistant eecretary of the New Zealand CounciJ of the Garment ^Manufacturers ' Federations, said' today tliat garment manufacturers had been closely price coutrolled for years and were in 110 positiou to absorb the wage increases. Altliough ' tlie Price Tribunal had agreed the new wage rates could be taken into account in price applicutions, it had, in many instances, cancelled the eflfect of ttns bj reducing manufacturers' margins to below wliat they were before Octooer 1. Negotiations were still in Iraia with the tribunal. J
