FIREMEN START FIRE

Reversing their usual duties, members of the Levin Fire Brigade, under the direetion of Superinten■dent W. S. Salmons, set fire to large areas of dry grass in the pit along Oxford Street, in the vicinity of the Levin Primary School. The grass was fired to prevent any possibility of an outhreak by other means, in which case it might get out of control before the arrival of the brigade and constitute a threat to many shops and houses in the vicinity.
