BOOKMAKER FINED £250
AUCKLAND, Jan. 8. Charged with liookinaking, Francis Regis Malloy, aged 44, pleaded guiltv i'n . the Police Court today. He was iiued £250 by the Magistrate (Mr. L. Kinclair), who, when counsel for Malloy referred to the Gaming CpmmissiQn report, said: "I ain going to judge this case uniufluenced by anything else going on in the outside world." The police evideuce was that in a raid on Alalloy 's office on Deeember 3.1 the records seized showed that for five days' racing Alalloy had ac.eepted bets totalling £4403. Malloy admitted th§t his weekly betting totalled about £100p. . Counsel for Malloy said that bookmakers did think they would receive some measure of licensing, but in viet!? of the report of the Gaming Commissioli it wwuld mean the end of book* niakers of Malloy 's class.
