Versatile Jockey

The versatile horseman, J. Williamson, was right on the job at Ellerslie, riding three winners in succession. He won the A.R.C. Handicap on King's Ransom (on whom he was second in the Auckland Cup), the Great Northern Derby on Sweet Nymph, and the County Handicap on Rose Marie. Williamson had not previously won the Derby, but he has to his credit a win on Merry May in the 1943 Great Northern Oaks and a success on Balgowan in the Great Northern St. Leger two years ago.
