JUVENILE CRIME RISES IN LEVIN

Juvenile 'delinquency in Levin during 1947 has increased 40 per cent. on the years 1938-43. Since 1943 the figures have risen considerably. In 1945 there was a total of 139 cases- heard in the Children's Court. This, however, is exceptional. The following is a comparison of figures for the Juvenile Court: — 1947, 51; 1946, 56; 1945, 139; 1943, 30; 1938, 31. Criminal cases have increased to a greater extent than during the war years. Since 1940 the figures have been in the vicinity of 200, but during 1947 they reached 237. The following are the criminal cases compared with those of other years:— 1947, 237; 1946, 196; 1945, 211; 1943, 109; 1938, 274.
